The Genealogy of Jesus Christ and its importance to human race
Let us learn about the genealogy of Jesus Christ and how He desires to bless us all based on the promise of God the Father. Jesus Christ can deliver us from all emotional harm. Let us draw near to Him to receive the healing that only His Holy Spirit can give us.
Observation – What does it say?
In these texts, the author discusses the relationship between Jesus Christ, Abraham, and David. Viewed through the lens of human history, these three names represent the fulfillment of three promises God made to bless all the families of the earth.
It also mentions four women with pasts marked by ruin—Tamar, Rachab, Ruth, and the wife of Uri’ah—in the genealogy of Jesus Christ, with the intention of showing us that Jesus Christ (our Messiah) came to restore the lives of us sinners.
In verse 17, Matthew mentions that there were 14 generations from Abraham to David, then another 14 generations from David to the exile of Israel in Babylon, and finally 14 generations from the exile to Christ (when Jesus Christ incarnate).
Elucidation – What does it mean?
It means that God fulfilled the promise He made to Abraham to bless all the families of the earth in Genesis 12:3 and then to establish the house and kingdom of David forever and firmly in 2 Samuel 7:16 with the incarnation of Jesus Christ (that is, when Jesus of Nazareth was born on earth).
Thus, Jesus Christ came to forgive our sins and bury them in the deepest depths of the sea. He takes away our past life and gives us a new one, as long as we follow Him and love Him by keeping His commandments, as He says. John 14:15.
In verse 17, where it refers to the 3 groups of 14 generations, I found, after searching on Google, an article titled “Unlocking the Gospels with Tanach: Matthew” in the website of Israel Institute of Biblical Studies and the blog named: Vida Nueva Digital it is in Spanish, you can always use Google to translate it. In his Gospel, the author Matthew—as a Jew would—referred to the gematria value of King David’s name, which is 14 based on its Hebrew consonants (דוד) (dalet + vav + dalet, or 4 + 6 + 4 = 14) . This serves to demonstrate that Jesus is the “Son of David,” a messianic title for the Son of God who was destined to establish David’s kingdom eternally.
Application – What does it mean for me?
For me, it means I can live with the confidence of believing that, through my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, my family and I can be blessed just as God promised Abraham. Furthermore, I can be part of the stable and eternal kingdom promised to David by our God.
The heavenly kingdom that Jesus Christ offers us is one where we seek Him daily and ask for His help and for Him to teach us the Bible through the counsel of the Holy Spirit—our Paraclete par excellence—so that we may be with Him in paradise.
How could I honor God while absorbing this meaning?
I can honor my God by believing in and accepting the blessing He offers me—a spiritual covering accompanied by thoughts of blessing—so that I may live eternally trusting in Him. I choose to remain under the covering of my King, Jesus of Nazareth, who triumphed over the evil satan brought into this world out of envy toward God’s creation—the human race.
Jesus also conquered death; even though we may die physically, if we believe in Him, we will not die spiritually for eternity, as long as we keep His commandments. John 11:25-26 y John 14:15.
